Education for All

About

Since 1987, Akshya Pratisthan has been serving the children who are differently abled and those who are underprivileged, without discrimination. We started the school in tents.

It took 10 years for us to get recognition. Today, around 300 children from Nursery to Class VIII are growing together under the same roof. They are provided with free education, uniforms, books and stationeries. The transportation facility for the differently abled children is also offered. In this inclusive set up, children are provided with scholastic, co-scholastic and skill development programs that improve their emotional quotient to be self-reliant and full of self-esteem.

Akshya Pratisthan provides services like medical checkups, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and counseling to the children with special needs at no cost. School also provides support for many disability spectrum like intellectually challenged, hearing impairment, locomotor impairment, and multiple disabilities simultaneously. We are proud to have a professionally competent technical staff for each of the major disabilities.
In addition, we have sign language interpreters and all the requisite therapists.

This is also an RCI registered centre for D.Ed (HI) where professional training is provided to serve the HI clientele.

As a unique and novel initiative, one of the first by any school in India, in this academics session from class VI onwards, we have introduced Sanskrit language as the third language. This will not only improve communication between the hearing impaired children, it would also add a new skill to the normal children who would then be able to seamlessly, exchange thoughts with the hearing impaired counterparts.

Our primary focus continues to highlight the unique abilities of a child instead of their inabilities. We impart this capability to our children to help them to integrate with mainstream society and live their life much better prepared for any adversity.

Mission

“Disability is one of the greatest bridges to inclusivity. Disability knows no boundaries between race, culture, religion, gender or economic status.” - Rick Hansen

Our unwavering commitment to providing therapeutic services to all our students stems from our belief in the unique needs and potential of each child. With an integrated and holistic approach, we strive to create an environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Founder

With a passion to serve the poor and needy Mrs. Aruna Dalmia began her career in the late 1970’s by becoming part of various social institutions. She became an active member of the War Widows Association under the aegis of Dr. Mohini Giri. She also began a project named ‘SWALAMBAN’ that engaged in various activities for the upliftment of women, with the support of the Mayor of Delhi, Lala Hansraj Gupta. Soon after she found herself a member of the Amar Jyoti Charitable Trust, an institute for both regular & physically handicapped children run by Dr (Mrs) Uma Tuli.

Every individual has some vision and aim to do something for themselves or others implementing the mission and achieving the aim requires immense courage and hard work. Aruna Dalmia had found the model of her dreams with the guidance of Dr. (Mrs) Uma Tuli, she decided to set up an establishment on the similar lines of Amar Jyoti.
