General Medical Department
A team of able general physicians, dentists, ENTs, ophthalmologists and homeopaths, visits the General Medical Department regularly facilitating the diagnosis of disease and contributes towards the medical well being of the children. A medical record of each student is maintained in the medical room. Apart from the medical treatment, the department provides vitamins and de-worming for the children on a regular basis.
Physiotherapy Department
The Physiotherapy department works with a team of senior physiotherapists who give routine exercises to children suffering from congenital and acquired illnesses like cerebral palsy, CTEV, DMD, other kinds of myopathy and post polio residual paralysis. The Department is well equipped with all the latest modalities like IFT, UST, LASER, MWD, SWD, TENS, EMS, CPM and Traction to treat the children and provide them with the much needed mental and emotional support.
Occupational Therapy Unit
The occupational therapy unit not only renders therapy to children but also takes care of their choice of vocational training. The therapists in school assess the children’s cognitive, motor and sensory problems and allocate the choices of vocational skills possible for every child. The department also suggests furniture modifications for physically challenged children in the classrooms.
Prosthetic and Orthotic Unit (POE)
The Prosthetic and Orthotic (POE) section of Akshya Pratisthan provides Orthotic and Prosthetic appliances such as crutches, wheel chairs and kneecaps to the current school children and alumni, free of cost. This department also provides maintenance of the appliances on a regular basis. A team of Prosthetics and Orthotics design and fabricate the appliances according to the specific requirement of the beneficiaries.
Speech and Audiology Department
Students with speech and hearing disability are counseled and motivated towards acquiring education by the professionals working closely with them. Sign language, speech therapy and appropriate aids are used in one-on-one sessions to prepare the students for fast integration into mainstream education.
